Both Americans and Europeans knew Benjamin Franklin as the man which MANY acheivements during the age of Enlightenment. Throughout the course of his 84 years of life, Franklin owned a printing press, published Poor Richard's Almanac--which allowed him to retire at the young age of 42, founded a fire company and a library, and helped start a debate club. A self-made scientist, Franklin published valuable theories on electricity, medicine, physics, and astronomy. He is also credited with MANY useful inventions that we still use today! Franklin helped found the College of Philadelphia, which later became the University of Pennsylvania. He reshaped our country's education, and without him we might not be as lucky as to be sitting in this classroom learning all the interesting things we do.
